Might there be a correlation between panic attacks and the drinking of coffee? Caffeine panic attacks will be the topic of discussion today.
Caffeine has a measurable and sometimes immediate effect on your nervous system. Its use is prevalent, and can be found in chocolate, medicine, candy, coffee, and more.
When you consume caffeine, you brain activity and nervous system function will accelerate. Do you think there is a link between consuming caffeine and resulting anxiety?
Caffeine reduces the level of adenosine in your brain; a chemical charged with regulating your calcium levels. A calcium surge into your nervous system can cause many side effects including increased heart rate, restlessness, or mild headache.
Might you be experiencing a moment of déjà vu? The symptoms are very similar to a panic attack.
Recently, Yale University and the National Institute for Mental Health, completed a study that shows caffeine panic attacks are the result of increased levels of caffeine in the body.
You won’t find me surprised by this. The physical manifestations of anxiety mirror those of excessive caffeine. If you have a natural predisposition for an anxiety disorder, caffeine consumption could trigger a panic attack.
The likehood of caffeine panic attacks being trigged by coffee drinking is probable, when considering all of the resulting physical sensations, and the reduced levels of adenosine creating increased nervous system function.
Is there a remedy to the effects of caffeine panic attacks?
The first thing you should attempt to do is cut down, or cut out your caffeine intake. Again, caffeine is present in a host of consumables including chocolate, tea, medicine, et cetera.
Most have a tolerance of caffeine consumption of less than 300mg, but those with sensitivity may experience caffeine panic attacks with as little as 200mg. Giving up caffeine may be the answer.
Cutting out caffeine cold turkey may cause symptoms of agitation, so do this gradually.
The final logic would be to forgo caffeine if you struggle with anxiety. By removing caffeine from your diet, you will be able to isolate other causes of your anxiety. With fewer anxiety triggers, you will be able to regain control of your life.
