Depression has become a common diagnosis, with numerous people, including teens and children, now being treated with mood depressant medicine. Truthfully, there are several reasons behind depression and, sometimes medicine can be exceedingly beneficial. But it's important to recognise that commonly depression isn't a drug deficiency but rather a result of a disequilibrium in the body. By keeping harmony with the body’s wishes depression is commonly safely and quickly resolved.

It is very important to grasp the classes of issues that can end up in feeling down. For instance, hormone imbalance is a significant reason for depression. Low thyroid levels can be a common culprit behind fatigue and depression. Other hormones, such as cortisol, progesterone and estrogen, can play a part in mood. In men, testosterone could be a major factor in loss of interest and depressed mood. Any sign of deficiency should be considered and reviewed with a doctor trained in hormone balance. Treatment of hormone inadequacies can regularly lead directly to dramatic replies in energy and overall well-being.

Absence of sleep may cause anybody to feel crappy. Around the time of the Civil War, the classic American averaged 9 or ten hours asleep each night. Today, we're lucky to get 5 – 6. It's become so straightforward to stay up late watching television or surfing the Internet. Most folks notice that they need a good night’s rest, but few understand the reaching aftermath of a deep sleep. There's really some truth to the term “beauty rest”. Deep sleep is a point in time when the body repairs itself. Hormone and immune mechanism balancing is happening at night while we sleep. Poor sleep night after night will lead on to fatigue, poor concentration and maybe a short fuse with those around us. For those afflicted by depression, give plenty of time in the schedule for quality sleep in a quiet, dark room on a comfortable bed.

Poor nutrition is another important factor playing into depression. Many nutritional factors will play a part in our mood. Vitamins B-12 and folic acid are required for energy and to help balance chemical messengers in the body. Low iron can also contribute to fatigue, weakness and loss of motivation. Many individuals feel the winter blues as we handle the cold and often dull months of the season. This is often related to a deficiency in vitamin D. Treatment with vitamin D has helped many people overcome the seasonal depression. Essential fatty acids like fish oils are also becoming a regular part of depression treatments [Source: Lucas]. All of the organs of the body, including the brain, need healthy fats for each day function. Our diets are bombarded with partly hydrogenated oils, high-fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners. It is becoming way easier to run deficient in several nutrients. Treatment for depression must include a diet that focuses on fruits, plants and healthy sources of protein.

Lack of exercising is another usual cause of feeling lousy. Exercise itself is a good way to bust out of the blues [Source: Martin]. Exercise gets the heart pumping and the muscles stimulated. This has many smashing effects on the body. Metabolism increases, blood sugars are far more balanced and endorphins are released to help mood. Exercising is another key prescription in the treatment of depression. Exercise programs do not need to be difficult. Find a type of exercise that is enjoyable, and do it regularly.

Chronic stress from a poor workplace environment can upset one’s health. Depression is a common result of persistent stress, and it is not the sole symptom. Elevated blood pressure, uneasiness, weight gain, poor sleep and a poor immune system are other symptoms that are the result of prolonged stress. Many individuals often feel encircled in their roles. Some of the best recoveries of health come when the decision is made to move away from a miserable job. Take an in-depth look at your job’s impact on your health. No job is actually worth the loss of your contentment. One of the substantial advantages of exercising is it's a technique to offset stress. Exercise can be a glorious tool for those needing to unwind from the chronic stress of work.

There are various medicines and additions used to treat depression. There are also lab tests available that may help develop a specific, individual treatment plan. Testing neurotransmitter levels may appraise which treatment (medicine or supplement) would be most helpful. There are several kinds of neurotransmitters. Dependent on which ones are high or low will dictate the treatment. Variance in neurotransmitters can explain why some people do very well with a given anti-depressant and others feel worse with the same medicine. This is sometimes a urea test that is done and sent from home.

Depression is. Typically not a cause but rather a symptom or reaction to what is happening in or round the body. It is very often a sign of a compound imbalance, lack of sleep, poor diet or absence of exercise. In coping with depression, a call has to be made to work on all factors that can affect mood. Build a regular sleep schedule. Plan out meals ahead of time to ensure enough fruits and vegetables are consumed and less processed food. Work out a regular exercising programme, and hunt down help if you're not sure what to do. Mood suppressant medicine can be beneficial for some. Work closely with your physician before stopping or changing your medication. Don't view depression solely as a drug deficiency, but as a signal from the body that life changes need to occur.

A good nights sleep has many important health benefits which I will write about in this article. Some people are able to be happy, alert and productive after only obtaining a few hours of sleep; I would have to put myself in this category. Then there are other who really need at least seven to eight hours of sleep to be able to perform to their best on the next day; I would have to include my step-daughter in this category.

I am by no means involved in the “sleep industry”; I am in fact involved with offering business cost cutting advice with the help of a friend who is a business cost reduction specialist. I also offer a variety of stammering therapies and advise people with regards to jobs in foster care.

Sleep itself has many benefits. People who often find themselves in a depressed state, which is what I have been in the past, can find that a good nights sleep can have a very positive affect on their overall state of mind. This could be because it helps people to think in a clearer and more positive way. The sleep helps bring more life and energy into people helping them to start fighting their problems and challenges.

Sleep can also help people who are often stressed. This is very much for the same reasons as above. What people may of course say is that they actually find it hard to sleep when they are stressed or depressed. In conclusion, I would advise people to enjoy the benefits of sleep. Sleep in some peoples eyes is a hassle and they would rather be watching the television or socialising with their friends. As previously stated I treat sleep as a hobby and look forward to going to bed. For people who are prone to depression or who are often stressing about this or that, a good nights sleep could be exactly what you need. Other methods would be to think of other ways of trying to switch off the mind from over worrying about things, as an example people can read part or all of a good book before attempting to fall asleep.

From a personal point of view, I have found that even though it is important to sleep for quite a long time (around seven or eight hours per night), that it is also important not to over stay in bed in the morning. As strange as it may sound and you may well think that I am some sort of nut case but I often think that I am heavier – or at least it feels that way. The effect of this is that I am left feeling rather weak and lazy for the rest of the day – something that I really do not like. This could be just me of course. I basically in general go to bed at around ten at night and wake up at around seven in the morning.

What I enjoy most of all is what happens in my house at around eight o’clock most evenings. This is the stage of the evening when my eight year old son will toddle off to his bed. He always has around an hour of playing with his toys before he decides he is ready to go to sleep and he likes me to listen to him whilst he is playing. I am quite happy with this as I love to spend time in bed; as it makes me feel relaxed and comfortable – I also love that cosy feeling. I do not always fall asleep but it is extremely enjoyable to hear him play while at the same time I am in a way re-charging my batteries.

I have recently made a very startling discovery which has helped me to stop spiralling into bouts of depression. Within the confides of this article I will be writing about this potential solution for depression which may well lead to a far more enjoyable and contented life for many people – I hope you enjoy the read.

Before I continue I would like to point out that I am in no way involved in the “depression industry”; I actually involved with stammering treatment, DVD replication and providing people with information about how to become a foster parent.

I am the type of person who can easily let things get on top of me. At the times when I am expected to run about and to act quickly I soon start to panic; I then become flustered etc. I am sure this is the same for many people but the way it affects me over the next twenty-four hours is somewhat different. I seem to lose all of my energy and this then can easily lead me into thinking in a very negative way, often ending with me becoming quite depressed.

For whatever reason this depression can stay and in a way haunt my life for quite a few days. I begin to worry about the future, start to think that I am a failure, start to become paranoid about what other people think of me and basically become scared to leave my own house.

Possible solution to my depression

A few weeks ago I was watching a television program which has since had a massive impact on my life. It was an army type program and it talked about how one particular group of soldiers had all seemingly become ill and could not even complete the most routine of tasks.

A general practitioner was asked to visit the site to see whether they could work out what may be going wrong. The initial belief was that it was likely to be some form of food poisoning.

The GP advised for a large number of salt tablets to be delivered to the camp as many of the people there were suffering from salt deprivation.

The next time I felt I was becoming down or when I was over tired, I ate food products which contained a lot of salt and I am very happy to report that I quickly regained my energy and confidence levels. Such a simple solution to what was once such a huge problem for me.

I know that what I have written above may well seem rather bizarre however it works for me. Why not give it a try yourself the next time you are feeling a bit low? You never know it might just work.

This article offers advice for both parents, other family members and children about how to deal with, reduce and even eradicate this depression. Before I continue I would like to make it clear that I am not involved within this industry; I am actually involved with stuttering therapies, helping people to gain access to a quality DVD duplication service and working with a group of cost reduction specialists. I remember from my own childhood having many periods when I was very unhappy and sad. Looking back one of my faults was that I was not willing to discuss my worries and fears with my parents and basically kept them bottled up inside of me. This meant of course that I had to deal with each and every issue (problem) on my own without any outside help or advice.

Looking back it would have been a lot better for me personally if I had been a lot more open with my parents about the problems that I was facing; talking was certainly not my speciality at the time however.

I am now a parent of two children myself and am always looking out for them. I want my children to realise that they can talk to me about any aspect of their life and that I will be here to help and not judge them. Life in general, with school as an example, can at times be quite tough, with things such as bullying affecting a lot of children. There is the added pressure of examinations and also trying to establish ones self within a group of friends. Moving schools and going through all of the bodily changes can also be quite uncomfortable for many children.

As a family we try to make our childrens home life as enjoyable and relaxed as possible. This includes many family days out and where financially possible, a family holiday abroad in the summer.

My advice to any parent who has an unhappy or often depressed child would be to be very patient with them through these periods. I, as I have already stated would try and get them to talk about what is making them feel in this way and if they do not want to talk, would let them know that I am there for them if they do ever want a chat etc.
